Developer Advocate at AWS

I am a Senior Developer Advocate working especially with - but not limited to - developers in the sub-Saharan Africa region.
Formerly an AWS Community Hero - first woman out of Africa, to be named an AWS Hero.
My tech background includes software developer, business and systems analysis, solutions architecture and cloud engineering. I love working with those who are new to tech in general - and currently focusing on those who are new to AWS.

AI can code, but it can't think like you (yet): the human in the loop

Meeting with developers across the continent, I hear the same question: "Why bother learning to code when we have AI?" AI coding assistants are transforming software development by turning ideas into specs, designs, and working code. But here's what I've learned from these conversations: these tools don't replace developers; they amplify them. Modern AI tools work as intelligent partners by catching mistakes, automating quality checks, and more, but still require human judgment, creativity, and technical understanding to guide them. In this session, we'll explore how learning to code isn't about competing with AI but instead about learning to lead it.
