Genes are the enigmatic programmers of the natural world - sending out a set of instructions on how to build a being interpreted by our cells resulting in you, me, trees, fish and every other living thing on the planet. And I am an enigmatic programmer of the software world, and I wanted to use my favorite language to unravel the mysteries of genetics, learn how we sequence genetic data with code, and find a way to process my own DNA with a tool made by me.
